I miss these times only because as another commenter wrote we were "Present", now everything seems contrived for likes and views. 20 year olds no longer having fun because they are busy trying to prove so much and overthink everything, when they don't understand they will never be this young again. So grateful I grew up in this time!
Hahahaha you'd be surprised how absent people were back then. Phones did nothing to change the state of things, they just became a visible way to show you're not there.
I come from the Eastern Europe. 1989 was when I was born. We were watching in the early nineties many American sitcoms and TV series about New York. It created in us a sense of longing and aspiration for this city's lifestyle that was not ours. We were experiencing a lot of poverty so New York appeared to be a paradise. Though we advanced in wealthfare and tech a lot compared to these years, and we do not aspire to mimic that lifestyle of New Yorkers but follow our own, I still have some nostalgia about NY and the nineties in the West. The West appeared invincible back then and Russia, China, fundamentalism seemed to be under control. Now the world is in termoil. Partially due to the fact that the West did not understand the emerging threats. NY and the 90s will always be in my heart.
When times run faster than your mind can keep up with them, when changes happen faster than you can assimilate, when the world you liked so much and that you almost didn't have time to enjoy no longer exists? How much pain!
The perfect mix between technology, friends and family. I see all my friends look at their phones 80% of the time we are together, even some family members that didn't want me to watch TV while eating dinner when I was a kid. Now I am the one who put my phone away while I have visitors or when I am visiting, and I notice, everyone seems to have a short attention span, old and young.
@@DavidontheWork Good bits were the internet (by which I mean in a layperson-accessible and browse-able way) and the feeling that it would be a "great leveler" and would somehow "take the power back" because all of a sudden whatever information you wanted was available. Windows 95 coming bundled with Internet Explorer opened the floodgates really on that front. Shows like the X-Files gave us enough distrust in big corporations and government, things like The Matrix were BIG and we felt as though a new era really had begun, where we'd settle into a future where we could tackle anything. Shame it turned out like this! On balance, the 80s were better. Or would have been if everyone had had enough money to take advantage of all the new stuff.
Ahhh, this takes me back. I'll be 51 next month, and 90s NYC was a whole VIBE! Me and my girls (now married w/ teenagers) were in our early 20s & in the thick of our era, clubbing, dating, just having a good time. And this is NYC footage - who knows, I might show up in it because I lived and BREATHED New York City during the 1990s!!! 😀
This is around the time I met my husband. I almosted worked at that MetLife building! (But I’m in NJ and after a couple commutes into the City, I knew that type of daily travel wasn’t for me so withdrew my application.) Love this one! Thank you, so much, for the memories. Edited to add: Now, I’m just starting to watch this. If I see the World Financial Center, that’s where I got married, on a yacht right outside of the glass dome building.
This takes me back to cruising around different downtowns on my skateboard with a portable radio and some headphones. They all had a chill late night jazz station and all I heard was the beat over the sound of the wheels going over the cracks on the sidewalk 🤙
Perfect video to watch when I want to make myself sad on purpose. 10/10. No, but seriously, it produces a bunch of different emotions in me that I'm trying to identify. Feels like the person who filmed it knew exactly what to capture in order to make us, viewers, 29 years later, feel this way.
It's an average VHS footage about NYC from the 90's. Doesn't have to be a masterpiece to make us feel as we do.. Whatever footage you watch 29 years later you're gonna feel nostalgic. Plus if the background music is as good as this one.. there you go.
whoever is reading this, just wanted to say we all are praying for each other and everything will be fine, you will shine like rising star and will have great success and fortune

This is 1995, not 1991. Look at the movies in the theaters back then (Under Siege 2 and Operation Dumbo Drop). But the intention is quite genuine and gives me back good memories.
